The TV host has always warmly welcomed the great names of Brazilian music.
One of the biggest names in Brazilian media, Silvio Santos, has not only made his mark as a presenter and entrepreneur, but he has also kept his ears open to Brazilian music, supporting artists who often found limited exposure on other television networks.
At just 18 years old, Fafá de Belém arrived in São Paulo and was welcomed by the "man of the treasure chest." Today, the singer, who is now recognized nationwide, says that meeting him was crucial for her continued success in the music industry.
"A girl who arrived at 18 from Belém, I was welcomed by this great man, the greatest communicator of all time. Mr. Television, who treated me like a daughter," the artist told TV Bandeirantes.
But Silvio's contributions to Brazilian music don't stop there. Often mocked by much of the Brazilian press, Nelson Ned, one of the most listened-to Brazilian singers abroad, was taken seriously by Silvio, who made sure to include the artist in several episodes of his show. The musician, who was a person with dwarfism, considered the SBT owner a friend.
Other Episodes
Titãs on Porta da Esperança
In 1995, Titãs delivered one of the most memorable moments on "Porta da Esperança" (Door of Hope), one of SBT's most successful segments. Silvio was talking with a fan of the band, who had no idea she was about to experience an unforgettable surprise.
Suddenly, the members of Titãs walked onto the stage, catching both the fan and the audience off guard. The band started playing "Domingo," her favorite song, and then followed it up with a performance of "Flores" at the audience's request.
The Kiss with Gilberto Gil
During Teleton 2011, Gilberto Gil gave a musical performance, and Silvio Santos, clearly excited, not only sang along to every verse of "Aquele Abraço" but also greeted the musician with a quick kiss on the lips. The moment became iconic. According to the singer, the gesture was spontaneous and completely unexpected.
What’s the Song?
One of the most engaging games on the Silvio Santos Show was "Qual é a música?" (What’s the Song?), where celebrities had to guess songs based only on small instrumental snippets. A regular on Silvio's show, Ronnie Von had an impressive run on the game, winning 25 times in a row.
