Historical presentation recorded in 2004 is available on WePlay Music TV
When Bruno Gouveia took the stage at Ceará Music 2004, in Fortaleza, wearing a yellow t-shirt and jeans, he knew that there was going to be, that night, what was needed for a successful performance: the energy of the audience present. This is because the band of which Bruno is frontman, Biquini Cavadão, had already had success in previous editions, with shows that took the breath away from thousands of people.
In the counterto what people close to the band suggested, Biquini Cavadão chose Fortaleza, more precisely Ceará Music, as the stage for recording the DVD "Ao Vivo", recorded in 2004 and released by Deckdisc on DVD. Today, registration is available on WePlay, the first streaming platform for Brazilian shows.
Bruno Gouveia recalled this experience, in which the musician himself judges as a game changer for the band. "It was a perfect symbiosis. Biquini could translate the energy of the festival and at the same time we had the opportunity to perform for tens of thousands of people. It was fundamental to our career".
Confira a entrevista completa com o vocalista:
WePlay: Biquini Cavadão, was in the first edition of Ceará Music and returned to the festival stage in 2004, for the recording of the DVD. How important was this festival to the band?
Bruno: Not only were we in the first, but we were in all editions of Ceará Music. In 2003, we played twice and in 2004, because of the dvd recording, we were also in two days at the festival. That is, we play more often than all existing editions.
This is due to a perfect symbiosis. Biquini was able to translate the energy of the festival and at the same time we had the opportunity to perform for tens of thousands of people. There was an audience that was talking all along about this energy. This show really was fundamental to our career. A game changer.
When we decided to record a DVD, nobody understood why we wanted to record in Fortaleza. And it had to be there, to show that energy. They told us to record in Rio de Janeiro, or in São Paulo, Minas Gerais. But it had to be in Fortaleza.
It turned out to be a milestone in our story, we had a very strong result and to this day people say to me: "Gee, I saw you on a DVD, with you in a yellow shirt, recorded in the Northeast". It was really important.
WP: The 2004 show, which became a DVD, is even considered one of the most outstanding of all editions of Ceará Music. Besides the band's performance, what else do you think contributed to this performance to stay in history?
Bruno: This show was the result of previous editions. The 2002 show, for example, we played with the day being born and people didn't leave. We even recorded the music video for "Toda Forma de Poder", of Engenheiros, and it was seven o'clock in the morning.
The following year, in the middle of the show, the organization came looking for us to play on Sunday as well. The DVD was only what it was for what we did also during the previous editions.
"One thing that doesn't change over the years is the energy of the audience in front of an artist they like. The difference is that they capture and leave it in eternity."
WP: Do you remember any curiosity, any behind-the-scenes stories about the day of the recording to tell us?
Bruno: I remember we had some really cool stuff. Dinho Ouro Preto, from Capital Inicial, showed up in the dressing room and had a long chat with us. He has no idea how it relaxed all of us. We were all tense, nervous, though we were happy with the festival. The cold in the belly existed (laughs). The coolest was this welcome, not only of Dinho, but of all the artists present. I thought it was very beautiful.
WP: The repertoire of the show has great classics of Biquini and also national rock classics from the '80s, like "Camila", from Nenhum de Nós and "Toda Forma de Poder", of Engenheiros do Hawaii, which are also on the album "80", of Biquini. Why is it important to value songs made in this period?
Bruno: The show was the record of the tour of this record, the "80". We still included some songs that had never been recorded, "Dani", "Vou te Levar Comigo" and "Quanto Tempo Demora Um Mês", songs that have become true hits of Biquini Cavadão in the 21st century.
Biquini always had this thing of valuing our own generation. "Carta Aos Missionários", of Uns e Outros, "Camila", of Nenhum de Nós and "Toda Forma de Poder" were three songs that we talked like: 'man, let's put them on, because they have a very positive energy.'
I believe that in a certain way, Biquini gave a characteristic, a very great personality to these songs. That is, the version of "Camila", from Nenhum de Nós, it's wonderful. And we managed to make a version with another proposal, but equally beautiful. So we did with each of the songs. Sometimes people come in and say they love Biquini on account of "Carta Aos Missionários"as if the music were ours, but, no, it's of the Uns e Outros. The same thing happens with "Chove Chuva", for example. That's pretty cool..
WP: Can you name 3 shows by 80s bands that you recommend that everyone watch at least once in their life?
Bruno: Dude, if you haven't seen the show of the Uns e Outros, i'd tell you guys to go running watch. The repertoire of the Uns e Outros does not relate to the great success of "Carta Aos Missionários". It is a band that is always building new repertoire, with thought-provoking lyrics. The disc "Canções de Amor e Morte", 2006, is, for me, one of the great albums that have been released in the last 20 years.
Another show that I recommend too much is that of Nenhum de Nós. Thedy (Corrêa) is a full-time composer, the band is always sharp and of course they have that thing to mix the sounds of the south. They also know how to get re-recordings to look like them, and that's very important.
The third show, in case you haven't seen it yet, is that of Selvagens À Procura da Lei, after all are house cubs and need and should be highly valued. The performances are beautiful, the songs are strong. I highly recommend it!!
WP: Making a parallel with the 2004 show with the current shows, how do you see the evolution of Biquini on stage from there to here?
Bruno: The great evolution we have had is the technological. You have today a show with big screens, which increasingly create incredible environments, is very cool. The innovation of light, mainly, was very important and, of course, the sound quality, the textures, the hallmarks.
One thing that doesn't change over the years is the energy of the audience in front of an artist they like. The difference is that they capture and leave it in eternity. Today, if I want to know how it was a show by a friend of mine, an artist I like, I have a way of finding it.
"Dinho Ouro Preto, from Capital Inicial, showed up in the dressing room and had a long chat with us. He has no idea how it relaxed all of us."
WP: WePlay is the first streaming platform for Brazilian shows and is the first that was born with the purpose of valuing artists. So when watching a show, it's like you flip through an liner, with the credits of authors and musicians. How important is this concern with credits to you, given that with the emergence of streaming services it has become more difficult to have this information clearly?
Bruno: We work more and more with one word: information. Information is needed for everything we have. I would like, for example, to arrive on a streaming platform and, when searching for a song, I could type like "I want a song in which the production was signed by Rick Rubin". Today, you can find by the author's name, but when we talk about production, it is still very difficult.
So any and all situation, that you really have the way to get this information, clearly and quickly, is very important. Even for people to value musicians, producers, technicians of all categories. Suddenly you discover that what's common between the show of Ana Carolina and of Capital Inicial is that the two were made with the same sound technician. That's very interesting. It is very valid that we can have more and more information about what we are seeing.
WP: Finally, what can we expect from Biquini in 2023? Lots of shows, new projects?
Bruno: Shows never stop, we live and breathe shows. We will definitely go through 2023 with a lot of will, a lot of claw and a lot of ghana. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before we meet with WePlay. That's it, that's it!
